San Diego Beer Tours - 858-650-0557

We Love San Diego Beer.  And the Sport of Beer Drinking.

pouring beer from tap into glassSan Diego is a mecca for beer brewing and beer science in general. Let us take you on a tour of the local research and development labs. It's ok to get relaxed and loose. It's all in the name of science.  And we'll handle getting you safely to and from your home.

Here's a list of the local breweries:

Alpine Beer CompanySeems like everywhere I go people are talking about this little brewery in the cute little hamlet of Alpine California. Alpine is located about 30 miles east of San Diego on the highway 8 corridor. (Make it your first stop if you are a Zonie coming to San Diego for a little R & R.) Seems like everyone is talking about a killer IPA that just blows everything else away. Well, I went on a fact-finding mission to Alpine and the rumors are true. Their "Nelson" IPA is the best IPA I've every had. And there are some real cuties working there at the brewery and cafe *Bonus!*. Just don't show up in a large group. You will be denied. Check the website before you go.

New English Brewing Company On Friday, 9/1/2011 a buddy and I went to New English Brewing for the first time. They're located in the Old Mission Brewery building at the foot of Washington Street near the skate park. It's a very small brewery with an outdoor tasting area. Bring your own growler because they don't have glass bottles for sale. The fill prices are very reasonable. $6 for a growler fill. Cool! The standout beer at NEBC was the Brown Ale. They really hit one out of the park with Brown Ale.

Coronado Brewing Company I never really cared for Coronado as a local destination. Too many guys and not enough women for me to have a good time. So admittedly, I let my bias against Coronado the place affect my opinion of Coronado Brewing Company beer. (Actually, I had never tried CBC beer.) But I saw an article in West Coaster which prompted me to try their Belgian style Saison by the Sea. It's a seasonal Belgian style ale with spices. Hints of citrus and fruits with more pronounced hints of ginger. If you're a foodie or gourmet, you'll love it! Stay away from the Islander IPA.  Coming Soon: New brewery and tasting room in Bay Park on Knoxville St.  very close to my house *Bonus!*

Pizza Port Ok, so I tried pizza port for the first time, today July 24th 2011. The pizza was pretty good. Not great, but good. They serve up a thick crust type pizza and I guess I'm a thin crust type guy. However, the beer was FANTASTIC! Ballast Point serves up the best beer on the planet, but Pizza Port serves up the second best! And they have pizza, too. The crust was rather tasteless. I think they need to add a pinch of salt.

Iron Fist Brewing Company I have yet to check these guys out, but have spoken to other San Diego Beer enthusiasts that were quite impressed. I'll check it out and update this post.

Stone Brewing Company An international legend.  I have been to their Escondido Bistro once and was very impressed.   The grounds and building are beautiful. The staff is friendly, service oriented, professional, and unassuming. The only two drawbacks are that 1) the location is in Escondido far off the party circuit and 2) it's a bit pricey. I would go back but I live just a few miles from Home Brew Mart/Ballast Point so whey drive all that way?

Firehouse Brewing Company Out of business.

Green Flash Brewing Company A fast rising star producing deep, complex, sophisticated brews.

NEWS FLASH! Green Flash just opened up a brewpub in Mira Mesa. 6550 Mira Mesa Blvd. San Diego, California. Nice! That's a lot closer to the party circuit than their original location in Vista, California.

NEWS FLASH! Ok, so I checked out Green Flash for the first time today. They have a HUGE tasting area, super friendly staff and lots of parking. This location is a MUST TRY for your San Diego Beer Tour. Like everyone else this time of year, they have a Saison. Green Flash's Saison is much milder than Coronado's.

You MUST try their Porter. It is outstanding. I predict it will win a Gold Metal at the World Beer Cup 2012.  While I like your beer and love your Porter, your growler fills are too damn expensive.

Lost Abbey Brewing Company

Manzanita Brewing I like this brewery, their beer and the staff. However, avoid the Gillespie Brown. My opinion is it's too smokey.  Worth saying again:  Super nice staff!

Mother Earth Brew Company

Oceanside Ale Works

Lightning Brewery I checked this place out July 3rd 2011. Read the website carefully. They are open for tasting and beer sales ONLY on Fridays and Saturdays with limited hours. The City of Poway limits their ability to offer beer from their brewery. However, if you come at the specified times you will be rewarded with a fantastic German style Pilsner.

Balast Point In Scripps Ranch near just off Carroll Canyon Rd. Gourmet food truck on Fridays.  Stop here before going to the movies in Mira Mesa.  The Scripps Ranch location is their large, industrial-level production facility.  Personally, I prefer their old location.  Little, 'ol Home Brew Mart in Linda Vista near USD.  They still brew beer there and you can sip your dollar tasters while browsing the wide range of home brew supplies.  The staff is super knowledgeable, super friendly and happy to answer your questions, such as what is an India Pale Ale (IPA)?

New Flash! Ballast Point has broken ground on an expanded production facility and tasting room.

AleSmith Brewing Company

Karl Stauss Brewing Company
